Traction control off/service traction control/service stabilitrak error

I was driving my 2008 Outlook XR home from work on Friday and the Traction control off/service traction control/service stabilitrak error displayed on my dash and the traction control/stabilitrack light came on. Got to town and picked up my son and restarted the Outlook and light was off, for about 2 miles the error displayed again and now the service engine light is on.

Called on-star and they did a diagnostic test indicating that it is the air intake and the engine is not getting enough air. How does this have anything to do with the traction control/stabilitrack?

I was told to take the Outlook in ASAP but to call and give the Dealer a days notice. Not really convenient when I have to travel for work.

Hoping it is covered under warranty. Outlook has less than 43,000 miles on it.

Forget the reason, but common for the traction control system to get turned of with engine issues. Think it is for safety reasons.

BTW, did you look at the air filter? Not hard to do, but does take a torx bit with long entensions to get at. Manuf says filter is good for 50K miles, but might save a dealer visit if you find it clogged up.

Re: Traction control off/service traction control/service stabilitrak error

The same lights came on in our '09 a few weeks ago, and would go out after restarting the car. They would appear on an doff over about a week. I found a post on the lambda forums about dirt on the encoder ring on the wheel hubs that is one potential cause. I took the car to a DIY wash and sprayed the encoder rings. Light has stayed off for several hundred miles of driving, minus one or two times.

So, OnStar can tell you the actual code behind those lights? I need to sign up - much easier than heading the the dealer an hour away, who said that there is nothing they can do unless I show up with the light actually on.

or buy a cheap code reader.

Ebay or store- from $40-60 for a unit that can read codes. (some dont erase the code).

I already have a Bluetooth OBDII reader that I use with the Torque app on Android to read & reset OBD codes. What scanner do I need for an '09 Outlook to read the GM computer codes?

Thanks!

Thanks!

obviously there are codes that a regular OBD scanner cant read.

I believe it would be a TECH II that is needed to read codes...
But the Tech II does ALOT more than just be a scanner.

you can buy them on ebay... the more recent ones for about $2000.

My 2012 GMC Acaida is getting the same error messages. It happens every few months. The first time I took it in they said nothing was wrong. The second time they said I needed a new cylinder (don't really remember, it was months ago.) I paid to have that replaced. Then a month later it said the same errors. This time it followed with REDUCED ENGINE POWER and the dealer said it needed a new high pressure fuel pump. Now it's doing it again, and they say nothing is wrong with it. It's now been 6 months dealing with this, and nothing. They gave me a button that's hooked up to the car. When the situation happens again, hit the button and it'll take a snapshot of the vehicles issues.

These vehicles have several computers which communicate with each other. The messages can be caused by several different components. Some causes can be Brake pedal position sensor, antilock brake sensor and my cause was Mass Air Flow sensor.
If you have the oil milkshake inside the air intake snorkel, then I would suggest that you have the modification performed which increases the PCV air flow which reduces the oil blow by, then clean the snorkel and replace the Mass Air Flow sensor. Just my 2 cents.
