Check engine light came on in the Girlfriends 2007 Outlook. Code P0496, " Evaporative emission system high purge flow" As best as I could search this forum and Google, I am going to replace the Purge solenoid. Problem is I do not know where to look on the car for this part.. Somehow NAPA had 1 in stock, so I plan to fix it this weekend.
Her symptoms incase anyone else needs to know beside the check engine light and code are, no start after putting any gas in it, and during the second attempt at starting, long crank time with the motor kind of sounding like it has a big cam in it for a second.
Thanks All Tom

Id look for it in the area from the gas fill door- down to the area where the gas tank fill hose- meets the tank- id look around that area.

I believe the purge solenoid is mounted on the upper intake manifold.

Correct... if you are looking at the Throttle Body from the front of the vehicle, the Purge Solenoid sits just forward of the Throttle Body. It is held on by one bolt, and has one electrical connector and a vacuum line w/quick disconnect fitting attached to it.

Well, I'm blind.. I could not find the purge solenoid. I took a picture of the area around the throttle body with my phone. Will post the picture later if someone can point this thing out for me

Yes, that is the solenoid in my hand. Another member said above that it is forward of the throttle body looking at it from the front of the car. Thanks for the links medicrxdoc but I can get them to pull up.. Getting an error of connection refused or timed out Thanks for any help guys! Tom

since yours is a 07-- it may be useless to look at my 2010 DI....
But may be worth a try to check by the fuel tank if you dont see it by the TB...

Will be checking by the tank tonight. When I ordered the part I had to provide the VIN# to the parts guy over the phone. He did mention " on top of the manifold" while I was on the phone with him... Will post back.... Thanks agains

Try this link to see the purge solenoid location for a 2007 Saturn Outlook. It's item #3 at the rear of the engine. http://sm.gpona.com:9001/si/showDoc.do?docSyskey=1866738&from=sm

AHA! Way down in the shadows.
Time to get a small stepstool and take a peek from above.
in one of the pics you posted- theres 2 disconnected hoses. one attaches to the aluminum thingy with a hole visible.. and the other is seen in the background--- I think if you follow that hose- youll end up with the purge solenoid as based on the image above-- it appears that the hose leads right to the purge solenoid...

Shucks....looks like the online repair manual was taken down. The link I posted above was to the schematic picture that outlookowner poster.
