I just bought a 2009 Outlook XE. The dealer or the factory disabled the dome light to turn on automatically when the any of the doors open. I read the manual over and over again without understanding that the dome suppression button was located on the upper part of the back panel of the dimmer nob.

Here's a picture of the button coloured in blue.

The dealer said this question keeps coming back over and over.

Hope this post will help someone.

All of those buttons that I have seen have been black, I wonder if it is a Canada thing to have them a different color Huh?

I photoshopped the photo to colour the button in blue to make it stand out.

There have been a ton of folks that don't understand the button.  I don't get the problem, myself with it, it's self explainatory...just push it.  But I guess, with so many not understanding it, they should make it more noticable as a button.  Also, I blame every salesperson out there that didn't show that to the customer.  There's NO reason for not being shown all the buttons at time of delivery, that's part of the process, but there are so many short-cuts these days, and laziness from salespeople, it's no wonder people are confused with all the buttons.

I have owned my 09 Outlook XR for 7 days....6 days spent in the dark until I finally figured that button yesterday.  If I only had found this forum 7 days ago...  Cheesy

On my 2008 Outlook that button doesn't have a Dome Off label.... is that PS'd also or a 2009 feature upgrade?

I like the button when i'm camping etc....

We just bought a sweet 2008 Outlook XR two days ago and were trying to figure the lack of dome lights out as we entered and exited the car. Ours has no wording on the dome light option button as the 2009 model does. A drawing with a half circle and light rays coming out along with the slash through it is all it has. Frankly we did not realize that was an actual button.

Having a child just over a year old, the option of dome on or off when doors open is great.

Given all the features on the dash, it's not as "user friendly" as perhaps GM intended it to be.

Thanks so much to this original poster who helped me to understand it really is a button. The wording on yours indicates GM realized a picture only label was confusing.

FWIW; my 07 Acadia is the same way; a pic without wording and the way it sits it's tough to tell that it is actually a switch
