I ordered a billet grille with bumper accent bars and installed them this afternoon. Pretty straightforward with no cutting needed. The hardest part was removing the factory grille.
The billet grille changes the look of the front end and definitely illicits many more looks.
They offer the grill for five days at a time and if you wait a couple of days the price drops from $249 down to $236. It's $100 less than what other sites sell the grill for.
The accent bars are part of the kit and each install with three self-tapping screws.
A very well constructed product and the seller was quick to respond and ship the grill.
I also don't...simply because it's a large opening, and when you take away the extra components such as the original upper Saturn "teeth", etc., and simply fill up the space with one big bare section of billet, it looks like a temporary homemade fix after a broken grille.
Now if there was a billet, etc. custom piece that fit in the actual grille piece below the original Saturn trimmings so it still had a surround and top, I probably would like it.
But without...it just looks homemade/custom in the opposite of the way that's usually best. But opinions are like, well, you know...and if the owner likes their big, bare silver hole now, props :thumb:
And Outlook is still an Outlook, regardless of the nose jewelry it's adorned with.
I didn't like the grill when I first saw it on the Saturn Accessories site. The sample picture was taken at an odd angle and the white color did not help show what the grill looks like.
After seeing it in person I realized how much lacking the OEM grill appeared to me. The horizontal section between the upper and lower chrome should have been chromed as well to give it a completed look. To me it's an open space that's unfinished. Plus the plasti-chrome has no durability against tiny pebbles or the coarse sand that's put down during snow season. One little nick and the black underneath the chrome makes itself visible.
I feel the grill ties in well with the chrome door handles, window trim, exhaust tips and the 19" wheels.
The intention was not to somehow change the Outlook to appear like another car. Just adding a little customization.
Completely. Out of curiosity, though, as I suggested...what would you think of a billet insert in the original grille area, so it still had a proper looking border?
Or do you prefer the no border, just a big piece of billet stuck on the full opening as now?
I think option #1 would be great...and would like to see that made. It would really look like a proper accessory to me, with just the right amount of custom.
Well it's not just "stuck" on. The kit includes 6 mounting points for a secure fit. And the billet follows the contour of the opening very well.
The stock grill has too many beveled/angled edges to allow an insert to properly fit in. I feel that the billet would clash with the plasti-chrome and appear "home made". Too many angles and textures providing a "confused" look. A border around the billet would look like the chrome strips added to door edges. Tacky.
I prefer the simplicity of the billet grill.
I want to paint my Saturn Emblem black but I'm having trouble removing the Grill. Do I have to remove the entire front bumper/fascia to remove the grill?

You do not have to remove the bumper to access the clips for the grill. Just be very careful when removing because the clips are brittle and tend to break easily.
i have the same exact grill with the accents on my charcoal grey Outlook, i think it looks good... The red logo on the factory grill seemed too big but the billet grill might look nice with a 3"x3" chrome (no red) emblem, IF i can find one life that. It sucks Saturn closed up shop, it makes the brand less cool to own but at least GM honors the warranty.
