2008 With P0496 and stabilitrak errors-help!

Hello all! New to the forum, and trying to get some answers. I have a 2008 Outlook with about 118.000 miles. About 6 months ago I got a check engine light, and also noticed that whenever I fueled up the car would just crank but not start. I found that if I held the gas down it would eventually start, so I just did that or didn't turn the car off. I found out the check engine code was the P0496 Evap code. The car started idling a little rough, and I would occasionally get the Service Stabilitrak or Traction Control or Parking assist off lights, then they would disappear. I had someone tell me that if I got the code cleared it may solve the issue so I went to O Riellys and got it cleared today. I live about 6 minutes from there, and three times on the way home the car downshifted roughly and the Stabilitrak and Traction lights came on. It went back and forth between driving normally and then shifting hard and the warning lights flashing. Needless to say I don't want to drive it, and don't really have much money to fix it. I have been reading different posts on this site about the same issues but don't know where to start to decide what to do and don't want to go to a dealer and have them try to charge a bunch of money. Any ideas?

Re: 2008 With P0496 and stabilitrak errors-help!

UPDATE!!! My mother-in-law had me talk to one of her mechanic friends that works on her old muscle cars. He looked under the hood and found a shiny stem coming from the intake manifold that looked like it was supposed to have have a hose or cap on it. He deduced this because of how shiny it was, rather than dirty like the rest of the motor. He put a cap on it, and it cleared all the codes immediately and runs fine. What I don't know is if there should be a hose on it or a cap, or if that could have caused the issues. I tried to locate it on a vacuum diagram but not luck. I have pics of the stem with the cap the placed on it, but don't have the ability to post them. it is on the passenger side of the intake, right below where the manifold curves out, closest to the firewall. Thanks!

Without picture it is hard to determine what should be there, but I am going to guess that there should be a hose connected. Try to get those pictures posted.

I know this sounds strange, but are you sure it was on the passenger side. I'm wondering if it was the valve where the air comes into the engine from the air filter. There is a pcv valve that can become disconnected or broken and cause similar problems. Regardless, I'm glad you resolved your situation.

I'm having lots of trouble with what I think are bad Canister Purge Valves manufactured by Bosch out of Mexico since Feb 2017. I have gone through 3 since JuneThe, GM will not replace them as bad after the first one
