Re: Outlook with water leak

BTW, I just checked by pouring about 4-5 cups worth of water into the drain hole at the driver's side. Water did drain from right behind the front tire where it's supposed to, although not terribly fast. So that means that the tube is not disconnected nor is it plugged. It could be that the drain-off through that tube is not fast enough if it rains very fast/hard. Desgin flaw?
I would replace the drain tube with a larger one but I'm afraid to remove the headliner and a-pillar cover w/air bag without doing damage to those pieces.

Yes. Info received. Thank you. Although it does not address the water leak issue I'm having, it is helpful for other things that I need to take care of.

Thanks again.

Also, if there was no recall, then I'm on my own. Looks like I'll be troubleshooting soon.
There was a recall that expired a couple of years ago. I ask about it being a dealer purchase because you would think they would make sure all recall and TSB work would have been done on it before selling it, especially if it was a GM dealer. There are drains on both sides, one may be clogged forcing too much water to the other causing the overflow down the drivers side A pillar.

Ours was purchased from a used car dealer and not a GM dealer.

I did check and the drain on the driver's side is flowing...and all the way out behind the front tire. Another thing that I did notice was where we were parking, the Outlook was leaning a bit toward the driver's side.
Could it be that there is too much water for one drain to handle?

I apologize, I didn't have the information that you were hoping for. However, you may find that the dealership that you are going to be working with might have more information about this. Since I am not a technician, I do not have access to all the mechanical information that the technicians at the dealership have at their finger tips. Once again, I apologize for this inconvenience.

You should be draining out the passenger side as well. You may have a clogged drain tube forcing everything to the drivers side and overwhelming it. You can clean out your self, but run the risk of disconnecting the tubes. It's about $200 at a gm dealer to have them clean them, obviously more if you disconnect the tubes.

Re: Outlook with water leak

WOW – what information about my 2008 Outlook XR with Sun/Moon Roof – of course, after the fact of buying a used one from a very large GM dealership group – it happens to be the Cadillac division - one year ago today with 31,629 miles upon delivery.

The issue started one week ago @ 50,853 miles – drove into my driveway from a short drive home - turned the car off & it kept running – got the car to stop – then noticed the check engine light was ablaze – time to visit the dealer service center the next morning. Twice – to my surprise - during the evening the radio turned on with the NCAA basketball games on!

The next morning nothing would start – therefore it was taken to the dealership on a flat bed tow truck. I was contacted later that day – it was a bad ECM which was replaced under an extended after care warranty (3 yrs / 36,000 miles) – then I asked to have them check for water coming down along the driver’s side. I was informed it was some bad seals along the cowl causing the leak into the passenger compartment – I had it repaired for ~$141. Once this was completed I picked it up 5 days after dropping it off - the ECM had to be ordered – thought to be a happy camper too.

Well, yesterday after many nice dry days the heavens let open & it rained on and off all day – drove it home noticing some wetness on the driver floor mats & a puddle of water in the sun roof tracks – UGH! – oh well maybe a fluke & need to have it checked out on Monday - then we decided to go out for desert – we went out to the Outlook & the radio was on with a basketball game playing again & the check engine light ablaze again – glad the blub did not burn out in the chaos.

We immediately proceeded to the dealership again that night & left it as a late night drop off – where the car remained outside – another torrent of rain passed by the area – oh no!

After not hearing from the dealership by 11A today – I headed there to get an update – needless to say it was not a pretty meeting – water everywhere inside the driver compartment including the electrical system – which was never before a bad issue unless the car sat heading down hill in rain storm – now I am stuck with “the water doctor” coming on Monday to check it out & find out how much I owe – oh my what a mess.

Probably the biggest issue is how come that much water entered the car this time after a water seal repair was made – what happened?

Is the vehicle still at the dealership? I apologize for my confusion about this.

Re: Outlook with water leak

Thanks for the quick reply - Yes, it's still at the dealership since Saturday - no calls yet - Jeff Wyler Cadillac, Fairfield, OH 45014. I originally brought it in for a Check Engine Light - replaced the ECM under an extended warranty & a 50,000 mile check up - mentioned about som water entry above the drive side - by the air bag connection - they inspected it & said a leak under the front body seam cowl - supposedly repaired & checked it out - picked it up last Wednesday evening - nice beautiful dry days in Cincinnati - then on Friday the rain returned - got into my car after work - noticed water in the tray area in the sun roof which had not happened in a long time after some warranty work done on July 6th with 34,587 miles. Then while driving home I noticed my left foot was in a puddle of water - soaked carpeting - said to myself need to get it back to the dealership - too late on a Friday night - however later that evening I went out and the check engine light was on & the radio was on too - I got it down there that evening - it rained very, very hard early Saturday morning & when I went to the dealer to check on it - the service adviser said water was all over the inside of the front driver's area. What makes me so upset is the water was never this bad prior to the replacement work done less than a week ago - oh my!

Thanks again for your reply!
