Replacement of Front Pads @ 80,000 km

Took the Outlook for maintenance today and was told that the front brake pads were down to 2mm and 3mm respectively.

Curious how much other folks have been able to squeeze out of them - I know it depends on how / where you drive.

80000 Kilometers = 49,709.6 Miles.

I posted this back in March on the Other lambda forums.
Im now about to hit 43,000.

Just did my tire rotation.
I snapped pics of the brake pads. 40,600 miles.
These are the rear pads.

Re: Replacement of Front Pads @ 80,000 km

My front got changed out at 45K but could have gone longer..... 4 mm left. It was apart for th rotor so I just changed them while it was apart. Inspecting them after removal, I found some cracks from high heat.

Thanks for the pictures, interesting....

Do the notches on the pads serve a purpose...ie if you wear down to the bottom of notch its time to replace?

Re: Replacement of Front Pads @ 80,000 km

good question. I also wondered about them.

I would think possibly for heat dissipation?

Re: Replacement of Front Pads @ 80,000 km

I looked up Akebono site... as the OEM pads are Akebonos.

In one of their brochures-- they show a slit on the pads-- and says "Slotted for NVH Control" (where applicable).

I then looked for NVH---- one of the selling points for these pads------ Best control of Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH)

I like that these OEM pads create little dust-
when I change out my pads-- ill definitely get Akebonos.

I use the metal brake pad thickness to determine when to replace. If the pad is at or about the thickness of the metal holding the pad, I replace them.

Only go with OEM pads if you want the same great quality.
