p0449 vent valve solenoid

I have a '08 Outlook XE with ~85K. Have a steady DTC P0449, won't reset. Also, whenever I remove the gas cap to fill up, I have trouble starting afterwards. From other sites it sounds like I should try a new gas cap and then replace the vent valve solenoid. Anyone have a diagram of where I find that sucker, and perhaps a part number?

I would change the solenoid like rbarrios has linked a previous discussion of the same problem.

Changing the gas cap is probable a waste of money and won't solve the problem.

Thanks for the replies, but the p0446 indicates the purge valve, not the vent valve. As far as I've been able to determine, they are two separate items in the EVAP system.

The vent solenoid is mounted on the evaporative emission canister which is mounted to the top of the gas tank.

Are there any views or pictures of this available. My wifes '07 Outlook XR threw this code and I am trying to fix it without paying an arm and a leg for Dealer repair.

Here is a link to a step by step on the Acadia forum http://www.acadiaforum.net/index.php...2009#msg192009.

You will have to register over there to see the pictures. Nice writeup and should help you well.

Re: p0449 vent valve solenoid

I have a 2008 Outlook XR with approx. 80,000 miles on it. The check engine light came on and I had it scanned at an automotive parts supplier. The code was P0449. With many hours looking up this issue on the internet, there seemed to be an issue on what and where the issue was. There are basically (3) areas to check:

The PURGE solenoid, which is on the intake manifold (which I replaced and check engine light still on). There was a post on this with the fix.

The GAS CAP. GM bad design (which I replaced and check engine light still on).

The VENT solenoid, which is on top of the gas tank near charcoal canister (next repair)

After checking the internet, I finally called the dealer and he agreed to give me the correct part number.

The part number is ACDelco 20907779 ACDELCO OE SERVICE HOSE ASM-EVAP EMIS. I found it the cheapest on Amazon for 73.51 not the 178.42 from the dealer. You will also need ACDelco 19257603 Evaporative Emission Canister Valve Solenoid Jumper Wiring Harness Assembly - 15.65.

The trick now is to drop the tank and access it. Hopefully this is the cure.

Re: p0449 vent valve solenoid

if im not mistaken-- the evap emissions test is NOT run at every engine start-- so the light wont be turned off
It runs only on every X engine starts.

Youd probably be better off clearing the CEL-- and then driving for a while to see if the light comes back on

Re: p0449 vent valve solenoid

Thanks. I will clear the CEL tonight.

I found a link on how to do this.

Unhook battery, turn lights for more that 5 minutes or honk horn until dead. Reattach battery and it should be cleared.

I will let you know. Thanks again.
