Transmission getting stuck in 5th gear

Hey Folks on the way down to DC this weekend my transmission starting acting up getting stuck in 5th gear while accelerating on the highway . This happened twice on the 4 hour drive. Is this the beginning of a wave plate issue? In each incident it corrected itself after pulling over at a rest stop.

We just went through the same thing. On the highway the trans would rev up 4500 RPM.
Had to have the transmission replaced. Good luck with yours and keep us posted.

Warranties can be tricky. You may have not hit the mileage, but is the time up

Re: Transmission getting stuck in 5th gear

Thankfully my warranty was still valid. My local transmission dealer and my warranty company agreed that a rebuilt transmission was warranted. I hope to have it back by Thursday.

I would be willing to bet it wasn't new, and was was a rebuild.

Yes it's a rebuilt. Isn't that the norm?

Yup, Rebuilt is the norm. Sometimes a dealer will try to fix yours. IMHO the rebuild is a better option.

Re: Transmission getting stuck in 5th gear

Finally got back my Outlook after the transmission was rebuilt. I bought an extended warranty under Fidelity and only had to pay my deductible of $100, not bad. Now I have to bring it back to the GM dealer for the passenger airbag seat sensor.
