Outlook Crossbars

Hello,
Does anyone have the part number(s) for the roof rack crossbars for an 08' Outlook?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim C.

Re: Outlook Crossbars

Depending on what your going to carry, I'd look at aftermarket crossbars from Yakima or Thule. The factory cross bars have long plastic ends on them that limit the usable length of the bars by ~8". My 2010 rack is different than your 2008, but I think they both have this problem. I use mine primarily for carrying bikes when we go camping, and getting 4 bikes up there is real tight with the factory bars. I wish I had gone aftermarket now.

Factory bars are ~$200 a pair, list. An aftermarket set up I think will be about $250-$300.

Here's 4 bikes on the roof of my 2010 with the factory bars:

Re: Outlook Crossbars

It does look a little tight for bikes but for a cargo box they do wook good and with plenty of room.

Re: Outlook Crossbars

Yes, I see how they can be a tight fit for bikes. Thanks for the pic of your crossbars and I will look into the other brands as well.
Do you usually remove the crossbars when they are not being used or do you leave them attached to the vehicle all of the time?

Re: Outlook Crossbars

I take them off. It's my understanding that they take off 1-2 MPG on the highway, which is one reason manufacturers give you the raill but not the bars.

The way the rack for the 2010 works, I can take the bars with the 4 bike rack off in one piece & hang it on my garage wall. It's a lot easier than removing the bike racks themselves. The rack for the 2007-2009 is different and that may not be possible.

Re: Outlook Crossbars

I just ordered the crossbars GM part # 12499868 from GM Parts Direct for $164 with shipping. I hope they attach easily.

I think that you will have to take off the chrome end caps on the rails (easy to do just take a screwdriver and push in on the hole towards the center of the roof and they pop right off) and slide the cross bars in from the the back.

Re: Outlook Crossbars

I ordered the factory crossbars and installed them because the aftermarket bars look to bulky and Subaru like for me. However, the mechanics and functionality of the factory bars are substandard. They rely on twist knobs to secure they're place on the rails and I had a cargo box slide backwards and almost off on the freeway. Both plastic chrome prices on the back came flying off and we pulled over to see that both crossbars slide back and almost came off because of the wind resistance. They should click into place like old Durango and Ford racks. They work well with ski racks though.
