When I am cruising at highway speeds I notice the tach bouncing slight 300 to 500 rpm up and down. Every so often there will be a low pitch rumble that will last for a few seconds with no real rhyme or reason. I cannot feel it in the accelerator or seat, it just kind of resonates through out the cab. It will stop after a few seconds or after i either let off or increase he accelerator. It also hesitates going up inclines at low speeds.
No tranny codes, had transfer case serviced, replaced rear shocks, and tune up done- no improvement
151,000 miles on vehicle
I had the same issue, dealer was not able to ever feel it, but of course,
I felt it all the time. They even changed the torque converter, but no change. Finally traced it to coil packs, and replaced 2. A few months later, a third one went, replaced that myself.
If I recall, the computer won't store the fault codes for the failing coil packs until the problem is pretty severe. It's been a while, but I know trouble codes didn't get stored every time the car shuttered, or seemed to lag between gears, etc. Luckily, I have an AutoXray, so when trouble code light came on, I was able to figure out which pack needed replacing.
I read somewhere, and it seems to be the case, the packs start to go at about 80k, if
I recall. I think another one may be in the early stages of failing now, but no code has set yet. Luckily, it's not a real difficult job.
I'd be very reticent to pay for a torque converter if I were you. I know it's a pain, but I'd hold out to see if a trouble code sets that can be traced to another pack.
Thanks for the heads up SR. Definitely not making me feel warm and fuzzy about replacing the Torque Converter. I take it you had your torque converter replaced under warranty and did not have to pay for it. The rear packs are a pain to get to.

jabeu, what did you end up doing? I am having shuddering at low rpms and my mechanic thinks its the torque converter as well but he does not do transmission repairs.
I have a 2010 Saturn Outlook with the exact same symptoms described above. Transmission Shop says Torque converter, Mechanic says Torque converter, however I am not convinced. I have had Plugs 2/4/6 replaced, however I dont believe 1/3/5 have been since before I owned the vehicle. I've seen some people post that coil packs on 5, go bad. Could this be the case? I'd hate to shell out 3400 for a rebuilt trans, only to find out it was a $60 coil pack.
I did a transmission fluid drain and fill, ran it a week, then did another drainand fill. The problem eventually went away. I now have 181,000 miles on the vehicle.
