Re: Lambda Sales Chart - July Results

It seems GM orginally thought the Enclave would be very small percentage of sales compared to the Acadia and Outlook. I wonder if the Enclave is doing surprising well or if the Outlook isn't living upto its potential?

I think it's the latter, unfortunately. The reality is that the Outlook and Acadia are VERY similar vehicles which share quite a bit of metal. With Saturn dealers unable to deal, Acadias can be had in many cases for less money than Outlooks. If GMC indeed raises the prices on the Acadia as has been rumored, I bet you'd see a lot more Outlooks moving.

I agree on the Enclave taking sales away from the Acadia. Bound to happen, being in the same showroom and all.

Why was May such a huge month? Is that when supply finally caught up with demand?

Re: Lambda Sales Chart - August Results

The Lambdas have actually gone down in sales in July and August. Speculation is that the changeover from 07 to 08 models that stopped production for 2 full weeks was the major cause. I can see that accounting for one month, but not sure about the other. September sales should really tell the story. Unless they climb back up to at or near June levels, something else has to be at play.

Funny how things have changed in my area. Used to be that I only spotted maybe a handful of Outlooks since debut but more Acadias, now it's totally the opposite. I see Outlooks almost everyday day now and barely ever any Acadias. The Enclave is starting to pick up momentum here also (Austin).

Don't know why I wrote "July." Clearly May was the peak.

The break is in the union contract. There's another in December. I don't think that the change to the new model year necessarily occurs at that time.

Re: Lambda Sales Chart - August Results

GM sold more in May because they had a 3rd. shift back then and had a larger capacity to produce more lambda vehicles. You will probably see the largest month in September since their capacity is hight again with adding the 3rd. shift on 9/4. I would imagine you will see even larger numbers for october because that would be the first full month of running all three shifts...if they don't go on strike.

I've been wondering about a strike myself. One would be extraordinarily stupid, but could happen anyway.

I certainly don't know all the intricacies of the details of the strike, but it would be a **** shame to kill all the momentum that GM has built up these past few months. Then again, that might be exactly the type of leverage that UAW would want to stage a strike on.
