We've updated our reliability stats for the Outlook to include owner experiences through September 30, 2016.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year (lower is better):

2010 Outlook: 67, moderate
2009 Outlook: 74, moderate
2008 Outlook: 69, moderate
2007 Outlook: 73, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2010 Outlook: 49, 4
2009 Outlook: 46, 2
2008 Outlook: 61, 2

Trying to remember if we've had transmission failures reported for the 2010s. GM might have upgraded the wave plate by that point.

We've updated our reliability stats for the Outlook to include owner experiences through June 30, 2016. Reliability information elsewhere is based on a survey conducted in April 2015--well over a year ago.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010 Outlook: 75, high
2009 Outlook: 87, high
2008 Outlook: 82, moderate
2007 Outlook: 61, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2010 Outlook: 50, 3
2009 Outlook: 35, 2
2008 Outlook: 49, 5

We'll have further updates in November and next February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

Re: Saturn Outlook reliability - how will it compare? (please sign up if you're new)

I've just recently picked one up, it's a 2010, used to be a rental car, with the LLT engine and (I think) the updated waveplate design. It had 173k miles when I bought it and now has 175k (surprised it has lasted this long).

Carfax shows that it has had regular oil changes all it's life and had the transmission replaced at 103k. The transmission I have now has no problems, except a slightly harsh 1-2 shift. I change my trans fluid every other oil change because of how paranoid I am about it. Although I have had the engine and transmissions out of the lambdas before (I work at a GM dealer), I'd rather not do it any more times that I have to. I can get a used trans for about $1k.

Most of the stretched chain issues we get here is mostly people who neglect to changing their oil. I change mine as soon as the OLM complains about it, I don't wait. People come here all the time and I find the OLM's at 0. Why?

Anyway, I have fully converted the exterior of the car to LED, did a resonator delete with a Magnaflow muffler (the same one that someone on the Acadia forums did, can't remember his name), and painted the wheels black. I won't be going any further as far as mods on this car, I want to actually be able to sell it for a decent price once that time comes.

Hoping for a few more years of problem-free driving, fingers crossed...

- 35R waveplate at 41k
- two radios I believe
- fully rebuid transmission at 115000
- stretched timing chain at 116000
- rear hatch automatic lift system replaced
-
- drinks oil, a lot of oil
- what's next

opinion i these cars aren't made to last much over 100000. If you get more, you're lucky. We change oil when the meter gets around 20% life but throughout the oil cycle, the oil should still be in pretty good shape because we add a quart every once in a while. No leaks in the garage. Where does it go?

Anyway, like many others, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Yes this is an 8 yr old car. Yes it has over 100000 miles. My cars up until the 08 Lambda, when you took care of them, they took care of you. Period. When maintained properly, they cost you less in the long run. Not on this vehicle. I understand there is a documentary on GM between 07 and 09 and how corners were cut to cut costs. I would like to find that....

Anyway, good luck to all. If you are buying one of these from 07-09 or newer Lambdas, check the repair history and make a better educated decision....
