I have a 2007 outlook with 16,000 miles that has had a thumping noise since about 10,000 miles. My dealer has diagnosed this as bad tire cupping and tells me I need new tires at around $1,000. He says it's probably an alignment problem. I've done some reading and everything I see on tire cupping indicates that it's caused by out of balance or worn suspension components, not alignment. I have had dealer service at 6,000 and 12,000 for tire rotation and balance. Has anyone had a similar problem or can you speculate what the base problem is. I don't want to put new tires on and have the same thing happen again in only 10,000 miles because the cause has not been addressed.
