Greetings Everyone,

A month ago my wife inherited her recently departed. Dads 2007 Outlook. He treated it like one of the family He put 2000 miles on it a year. He bought it used so total milage is just over 100,000. I never got to drive the car until yesterday. With her watching I hoped in and turned the key. It cranked, but it would not start. After a few attempts she tossed me out and tried it her self, with e same results. "What did you do!" She said. It always starts. It seemed to be cranking slowly so I figured we will just jump it. I tried the lugs under the hood and directly to the battery. It didn't really take a charge. Seeing it was the original battery, we replaced it. After charing the battery over night, I tried it this morning. It turns over great, but the amber engine light is on while cranking and when the key is in the run position. Still not firing. I checked for codes using by Android phone and obd2 adapter. It says no faults found, not even pending ones. However she's been driving around with the Anti lock brake and traction lights on for over a week. They appear to be off now. Only the amber engine indicator is glowing. You can see the pickle I am in. I broke my father in laws pride and joy If we had a dog house I doubt she'd let me sleep in it. I apologize for the lengthy post. I am new to Saturn's and I didn't want to miss anything. Please help. If I can provide any more information please just ask. Thank you so much

I should also mention I went a little old school and shot starter fluid into the throttle body while it was cranking. Not a single hint that it was trying to fire. I thought it might help...

That is the first time I have heard of a Check Engine Light illuminated without a code set. Maybe your Android device is not picking one up. Try Autozone they can scan for faults for you.

I tried a different software, and it gave code P00000 no code found. It's as if the ignition system has been disabled. I did get a couple backfires, but they are very very few and far between. There are no lights on the dash except the amber check engine light. If I do have to take it to the shop, I wonder if I should have it towed to a dealer, or our local shop?

If your local shop is reputable and has diagnostic equipment, it would probably be the better choice for cost.
Oh BTW I assumed that you did finally get it running since you stated your wife was driving around for a couple weeks with the faults showing, my mistake. Yes you would have a CEL with the ignition on and engine not running. I would next check to see if your throttle plate is opening and that it is free and clean.

Re: 2007 Outlook AWD Stretched Timing Chain Dealer is engine gone please read

A lot has happened in the past day. So much that I'm wondering if I should start a new thread. So, my local shop diagnosed my outlook with "stretched" timing chain's. I know from this forum, this is a known issue so I called Saturn listed on the special service
Bulletin. They couldn't have been more helpful. It turns out the bulletin was enforced on my vehicle for two more weeks. I quickly had the outlook moved from my local shop to the GM dealer. They also confirmed the were quite a few bulletins regarding timing chains with my car. The dealer found 2 dead cylinders and asked me if I'd spent the $300 so they could diagnose it was the timing chains. I had to agree. Shortly they called back and said there were bent valves on two cylinders and the entire engine must be replaced. The service giuy then said the bulletin would NOT cover this as it only covered the timing chain and NOT the engine. I argued the point and the dealer said I would need documentation/receipts of every oil change, tune up etc and if at any point I had not used AC delco parts they could refuse to cover the engine. To me its pretty clear the timing chain probably failed and busted the engine. The dealer really pushed me replacing the engine but I need the advice of people on the forum who may have dealt with something like this. I feel like the dealer is looking for a loophole to get out of paying.

This forum doesn't have much action since Saturn has been discontinued and not as many vehicles compared to the other brands were produced. Try posting on the Acadia forum, there are a few techs who probably work for GM there. If GM customer service chimes in, they will probably tell you how sorry they are to hear of your situation and then tell you to try another dealer. Press them to open a ticket.

Thank you so much for your reply. I thought moving the post might be helpful. When I called GM they did open a ticket, I was thinking of including that number when I repost in the Arcadia forum. I don't know if that would be helpful or not. I'll give it a try. Thank you again.
