I've started getting the low speed click that seems to be indicative of a bad rack and pinion assembly, along with evidence of leaking from the boots.

I've read here that ALL Outlooks came with variable assist steering, and just want to make sure that is, in fact the case. I did check the label in the glive box, as another post suggested, and did see "NV7" on it, but it is just in a table with a bunch of other numbers. I presume that is a table of actual parts that are on my car, and the "NV7" means the part on my car is, in fact, variable assist?

I know I sound paranoid, but I really don't want to order up the wrong part.

Just my luck, this noise started to appear about 302 weeks after I had the firewall exhaust all pulled out in order to replace that catalytic converter. Now I have to pull it all apart again! ;D :banghead:

Disregard the above question, I remembered I'd read somewhere that a gear with variable assist would have an electronic component on the driver's side, nwhich mine does.

BUT, my second question is, should I replave the EVO component while I'm at it? As I shop around I saw many that come with it, which makes me think they are intended to be changed at the same time? Thoughts?
