I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook (155,000 miles) that is having shifting problems, Dealer said needed a new 3-5-reverse wave plate which based on comments on this site seems to fit. My question is could this be related to previous timing chain issues. We previously had the timing chain repaired after all sorts of problems that no one could figure out for several frustrating years.

Depending on the quote, it will probably be cheaper to get a GM remanufactured transmission ($1800) than to have the dealership spend all that labor to tear-down and rebuild the transmission + parts.

$1800 sounds low compared to my transmission replacement. I am being told $3800 to replace mine and I have heard horror stories on other forums of up to $5000. What is the true cost of fixing the wave plate problem, there is such a big variation between dealers and GM. I have 107,000 miles on my 07 outlook with a 100,000 mile warranty. It went wrong while on vacation and away from home so it is not being fixed by someone I know and trust. The GM dealer said that all they could and would do was replace the transmission as they had not had a good success rate in repairing them. I could get lucky and get 20k out of a repair. He could not tell me if the replacement transmission would have the old or new wave plate in it but that I would have a new 100k warranty with it.
