After seeing all those "Sync" commercials for Ford I REALLY wanted to implement the Bluetooth phone feature in my 07 Outlook XE. I looked at Circuit City and Crutchfield to see what they had. I was closely checking out this JVC(which the price just rose up $150!). From on sale $549 to $699. Guess I'll wait it out...

Anyway, it's a "Double DIN' so it'll look "cleaner" and does all sorts of cool stuff including Bluetooth phone. But it requres a harness called

GMS-LAN01 which is 130$ at Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=gms+lan01&i=120OSLAN01

This allows OnStar and door dings to still work. Just wondering if anyone has done any of this yet?

I had a Pioneer AVIC-D3 unit installed in my 2008 at Circuit City. I does nav, xm and even controls my ipod which I have in the glove box. Unit is a real clean install. Onstar, steering wheel controls and chime all still work.

Did they order the harness for you? Because the CC by me said they didn't have it and said they could order it or I could order it...

They (Circuit City) did order all the correct harnesses for me. Total install was $1700.00

Everything does work correctly.

You can also add back up camera and bluetooth adaptor to the main head end Pioneer Unit if you like.

Will the bluetooth work through the existing microphone that On Star uses?

1700 dollars is wow!!! I bought the D3 from Crutchfield, for 980 with a free-rear view camera, but i had to buy the ipod cable, and the LAN adaptor and installed it myself. Then the unit messed up and now Crutchfield is sending me another one with bluetooth and another ipod cable. So It'll cost 70 dollars more and i'll have everything installed in the outlook. I'm practically a novice and did it myself in about 2 hours. Did a bypass as well. everything is working great.

Wow...you paid $1700 to have that unit installed!!! You could have gotten the AVIC-Z2 and still had $300 left over for that money!!! I'm glad you posted, I am actually looking at either the AVIC-D3 ($670) or the AVIC-Z2 ($1400). I can get the harness from Crutchfield for $130 and do the install myself.

If you don't mind...how do you like the functionality of the D3? Would you have opted for the Z2 if you had the chance???

I do love the D3, The Z2 wasn't an option at the time where I purchased it. The base unit was $900.00, $300.00 for the install & the rest was for the correct wiring harnesses. I am not very handy around cars and had to have it installed for me. I would have been sick if I broke any of those special dashboard clips or anything on a brand new 08 model. I had no idea how the dash trims come off.

Ohhhhhhhh...okay, okay...I was watching a demo on it on CNet and they were saying how you have to keep the Nav DVD handy to use the nav feature. After seeing that...I think I'll pass.

You don't give yourself enough credit...unless you take a hammer and pry bar to the dash, you really don't have to worry about breaking clips. If you order through Crutchfield, they give you detailed instructions on how to get everything done...just future FYI should the need arise. I just hate seeing folks get ripped like that though. I mean...$300 for an install...that's crazy. I wonder what they would charge to install a regular CD/MP3/AM/FM head unit!!! The reason I ask...there really isn't much difference between the installs except for the e-brake connection to disable the DVD function while the vehicle is in motion...that's pretty much it. Circuit City and Best Buy make me sick!!! :ack:

I would like to add an overhead DVD system to my new 08 Outlook with the sunroof option. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't really want to use the headrest models because you can't really see them from the 3rd row very easily.

I also have a new 08 with sunroofs...it's my understanding that when you add an after-market video screen in the back by the second row, they take out the dome lights in the back since most flip down video screens have dome lights as well. They can fit it in.

I am getting the Pioneer listed above with the second monitor in the back.

Hello. I am also in the market for a 2008 Outlook. Have not been able to find one with the dvd. I thought about the aftermarket dvd players but was not sure how they would work with the two sunroof option. Has anyone installed one? What model? Thanks! :help:[/color]

I recently had a 10.2" flip-down DVD installed between the two sunroofs. The two dome lights were removed, but the unit I installed and others I was reviewing had dome lights built in. With the installation I had them install a wired FM modulator (clearer than a FM transmitter) so that the sound can be played via the speakers or the read headphone jacks.

Hey Markt, since you have the Pioneer AVIC D3 installed, quick question for you. Are you able to connect a rear flip down monitor to the back of the Pioneer unit to watch movies in the back? I am considering getting a full rear flip down DVD system or going with a DVD/NAV in dash system and adding an LCD monitor. I assume the LCD monitor would go into one of the AV ports in the back of the Pioneer unit?? Thank you.
