Chevrolet Traverse begins production early 2009 - pricing estimated at $22,790
The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse will add onto GM’s Lambda family which currently includes - the GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and the Buick Enclave. Sources are saying that GM has planned to begin production early next year of the new mid-sized Chevrolet crossover at its Spring Hill, Tennessee plant
UAW and management officials have told the workers at Spring Hill workers that the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse will be priced about $10,000 below the Enclave which starts at $32,790.
GM hopes that the Traverse will appeal to buyers that interested in Chevrolet’s TrailBlazer and minivans since sales of those cars continue to fall.
“We need it, we need it desperately,” a large Chevrolet dealer, who asked not to be named, told Automotive News. “We don’t have a van right now, the closest we have to it is the TrailBlazer, so we’re losing a lot of business because of it. The crossover is a very popular segment right now.”
According to the dealer Chevrolet hopes for a capacity of 250,000 crossovers annually. The Chevrolet Traverse is expected to make its debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.
