Hey folks!

I also belong to the "saturnfans.com" site and stumbled over a post concerning the polymer panels.

Have anyone else heard about or have this happening to them? I have not gone outside to inspect our VUE since reading this.

This is the post by one of the members under "Cracking Polymer Panels

:'(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all. I have had little if any response to a topic which I consider very important and hope people will notice it in this forum.
We had a 2003 VUE which started to have cracks in both the rear doors in the area where the forward portion of the polymer panel bends inward towards the hinges. (not sure of the technical term of this particular location)
The other day as I was washing the 2007 ION 2, I noticed a crack on the trailing edge or rear of the front passenger door. Unlike the VUE, this is the portion that folds or bends into the edge of the door when it closes about 9 inches from the top.
Luckily we were within 3 days of the bumper to bumper warranty but needless to say, I'm very upset about it. I can't believe, I've had 2 vehicles with this problem and not very much information is posted! As a matter of fact, the dealer told me that they just had another similar complaint about a week ago but the poor guy was out of warranty."

I have heard of this on the early polymer Saturns but not late model stuff. May have been a bad batch of poly in the mold. My 05 VUE has no cracks and I've even bumped into it snowblowing @ 15 degrees out with no incident.

My first thought was that they may have been aftermarket replacements, but he said they are replacing them under warranty.

Lots of cars have plastic panels, not just Saturn. Saturns were unique on that all the vertical panels were plastic. The Fiero and the GM dustbuster vans (Transport, Lumina, etc) did as well. Some 90's Caddys had plastic front fenders and the first gen Intrepid did too. The last gen Camaro/Firebird had plastic doors & front fenders.

My point is, that if it were common, you'd see a lot of cars with broken panels.

I have taken a few shots of our 03 VUE the edges where I think the original comment is referring to.
