We had a wonderful time driving our 24K 2009 (bought in Nov, 2009) Outlook until we started heading back home (6 hour drive) this Holiday Thanksgiving weekend. After a couple of hours we stopped at a gas station. After fueling the key would not turn-over. We thought that this was a dead battery, until Roadside Assistance (about a 45 minute wait) jump started us and told us that the anti-theft mechanism in the steering wheel shutdown the whole car. We had no access to even push the emergency lights on. Absolutely nothing worked. I mean NOTHING! There was certainly no indication that the battery was low (we have a battery meter on our instrumentation panel). But again, the car required a jump start. What could have caused this and will this happen again ?

If the key gets stuck dont you just pull that little black rubber stip out from under the key and poke in there with something to resale the key?

My 2003 Regal does this from time to time. Its a faulty solenoid but I just keep a bic pen in the ash try to push the hidden buttin. I do have the part to replace it with but meh ;)

That little black rubber piece is just a bumper to prevent excess noise from the keys striking the column when hanging from the ignition. I haven't had mine since I bought mine and there is nothing to "poke" under there.

I haven't had my key stuck and was just mentioning what other people have said. I think it is a security feature?

No power means the solenoid that releases the keys won't release them. It handles knowing when the shifter is on park.

Sounds more like a power issues. They us a lanbus system to power everything up. Basically the ECM/BCM are telling things to turn on and off.

I know when the power is low in the battery it causes all kinds of weird things to happen.

It would be wise to have the battery load tested.

This morning my wife went out and tried to start our '08 with her key. It wouldn't do anything. The info panel said "service theft deterrent system". Everything was dead. I tried with my key and it started right up. I turned it off and tried with her key again and it was fine. Fine ever since. Any ideas?
