I just bought an '09 Outlook with 45K miles. This is my first "adult" car as I have always driven hand me downs or Craigslist diamonds. I am not sure how the warranty works. Am I covered under the 5yr/100K GM powertrain warranty? Does that go with the car? Do I need to do anything?

Also I see some people get recall letters or other notices. How do I get GM my address?

Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to help me with my ignorance.

Congratulations on your new purchase. You are covered automatically under the power train warranty. You should stop at a GM dealer, or contact the customer service rep on these boards to find out your in service date. This is the date the warranty actually started and will determine the ending date.

You can also have the history of the car brought up by using the VIN and having a dealer or the customer rep run it for you. This will also show any recalls or notices which have been done or which are still outstanding.

In case you don't have the owner's manual, here's a link to view it on line.

No ignorance shown here by you, just a few good questions which were asked.
