Hello everyone..
Just purchased a 2009 Outlook, pretty low mileage, 52,000. and was wanting a lil info if possible..

First off, had an 08 Vue, and loved it, but it was feeling *small* so was looking for an Outlook, wasnt going to purchasse right away, however the old wave plate trick was coming in, (dealer was going to meet me at 60/40, but, didnt want to deal with it, so we traded it in on this outlook. I love the Saturns to be honest, as far as Im concerned it is every bit as nice as the Acadia the gf wanted, but 10 grand cheaper. :) She loves the outlook as well, and the wrap around back window just looks awesone imo. :)

Anyways.... with it being an 09, with the DI engine, and the same tranny as the Vue basically, at some point did GM change the wave plate in these, if so when, if not, I have 18 months warranty left and will be watching it close.
Also, Ive read about timing chain problems, water pump.. throttle body etc.. so.. anything on the 09 I need to watch are were a lot of these problems corrected by GM before June of 09 when this one rolled off the line?
thanks everyone, Im loving this truck!!!
Look forward to having her a long time... Ill get pics up as soon as the site will let me.

unfortunately the 09's continued to have wave plate issues.
The 2010's received the updated wave plates.

You can have the dealer run a check on your VIN- to see if the oil life monitor has been recalibrated (recall).
If im not mistaken the timing chains warranty has been extended to 120,000 (or 8 yrs or 10 yrs--- double check please).
The throttle body? dont know what issues those had...

But- just be sure you check your oil level often... I check my Traverse oil weekly.
Also- run your oil roughly about 5000 miles or so.

My Traverse was built at the Saturn Plant- Spring Hill in July of 09.... as a 2010 model.

The good thing is-- that the Acadia forum- has a member-- keydiesel who has his own repair shop- master mechanic-
he says that if youre willing-- you can have the wave plate change out BEFORE it fails.
this can be done with the transmission still in vehicle. his shop charges $650 I believe.
He recommends this be done. once the wave plate begins to shed debris--- its too late-- and it will require the removal of the transmission from the car-- and a complete and thorough cleaning of the trans--- cost at his shop I think $1700 or 2000--- but dealer-- WAYYYY more...

I believe some owners who live near him are being proactive and removing that part-- since theyre out of warranty-- and $650 is better than near $3000.

Still haven't found any evidence that ALL MY2009's are affected by the wave plate material issues.

The cut-in the revised heat-treated wave plate is a closely-guarded GM corporate secret, unless you've come across better intel?

thanks for the feedback guys, the throttle body issue I was talking about seemed to be gathering oil inside? blowback from pvc valve If I remember right.
My main concern I guess is this **** wave plate issue. the wave plate was going in my 08 vue, so I traded it in., problem was it starting going out just shy of 2 months past the warranty. The local dealers all acted like we dont know what you're talking about, and the one dealer I called that is owned by a friend of mine, his service deptartment head said he knew exasctly what was up, that EVERY dealer has the ability to make the call on replacing it, at a 60/40 split up to a year after the warranty expired. Yes I went and bought another because frankly, I love the outlook, and the vue. no, neither of those I had/have are loaded with all the latest options, but i prefer it that way. Im just hoping that the wave plate if/when it decides to let go, does it before July of 2014, when my warranty expires on this vehicle.
