Well, I didn't intend it to go this long, but time and miles got away from me. OLM said 13% at a little over 9K miles. The service writer gave me a funny look when I asked him to fill the Blackstone bottle when draining the oil. ;D

This was Pennzoil Platimum synthetic. Iron was a bit high, even factoring in the extra mileage the average should be 52-53. New oil is whatever dino oil the Chevy dealer uses.

Thoughts?

I would not go that long, you should do another sample @ 3K to 3500 and then you can compare #'s. JMO

Given the length of use and knowing how these engines aren't nice to oil, it isn't that bad.

Unless you want to check for coolant, resampling at such a short interval with a different oil isn't gonna show to much, there is gonna be some retained oil that has the "high" iron and the additives from the PP.

You may want to do a shorter interval the next time since it is dino, but that's gonna be your call.

My intention is to change as on my other cars, about 7,500 miles. It just got away from me this time.

Blackstone didn't seem concerned, indicating check it again at another 9K. I may do another report at next change based on the dino oil, but I'm not going to do it every time. It effectively doubles the cost of an oil change, seems if I'm going to spend that money I'd be better off cutting my oil change interval in half. :p

Interesting that had I gone to 0% on the OLM, it would have been about 10,400.

IMO; if you intend on staying with the longer OCI's; it might be a good idea to keep having your oil analyzed to ensure damage is not being done.

seems the PP is spot on with the OLM in terms of TBN/oil life left.

Since they put Dino in there.... run it for 3000 miles-- and drain it-- so that it takes away the old PP and iron.
Heck- you may even want to run Valvoline dino 5W-30 for the summer (where youre at)-- and leave it in for 4000-5000 miles.
and then do a UOA on that oil and see if it gives you lowe numbers for 5K change intervals.
Thats what im doing on my 2010 Traverse. roughly 5000 miles on oil. Los Angeles rush hr traffic- and easy driving all the time to maximize MPG.
But as you can see from my UOA-- its performing well. (and spectacular for 5100 miles with a 4200 miles all highway drive).
I dont know what winters are like around there so I cant comment on winter use of oil. but for Los Angeles- I use this year round... buy it on sale- at $2.40 a quart--- cant beat that...

and theyre right-- check your air filter for a poorly seated filter cover.

On 2007-2011 Acadia, 2007-2010 OUTLOOK, 2008-2011 Enclave, and 2009-2011 Traverse models, it is possible for the washer hose assembly to become misrouted or trapped between the air cleaner cover and lower housing after air cleaner inspection or air cleaner element replacement. This may cause the washer hose to be pinched by the housing and damaged. (Fig. 7, A)
When reassembling the air cleaner cover to the lower housing, ensure the windshield washer hose clip is secured to the cover and the hoses are routed properly before tightening the air cleaner cover screws.


and an actual pic of when I changed my filter-- I made sure it wasnt pinched.
check to make sure that clip/hose is there- vs pinched by the cover.

I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic here but interesting enough though, I changed the oil in my SIERRA the other night and it takes 5W30 and a PF48 filter. I used Penz Plat and will do a UOA when the time comes.


rbarrios, how long does your buddy go in between OCI's in his Silverado? I have the LC9 engine.

Interesting that V8 uses the same filter; I would have expected something a little bigger. I still think the PF48 doesn't have enough filtration media for the Lambda's. When mine is out of powertrain warranty; in goes the PF63 :thumb:

Yep that's what I thought. Same thing for me on the PF63.

his being a W/T- it comes with that old faithful V6- the 4300- I think LU3.
I believe hes been doing 3000 miles so far. Hes at about 10,000.
But im sure **** extend that- as he already has on his Mazda 3- after a UOA.

Those 4300's are easy on the oil for sure, what a great engine :)
