Thank's for the help. When I used it I asked for a specific route ( scenic) The operator said thet they could not do that, only the most direct way. They also said that if I took my own route off the one that was programed that it would steer me back. Why can't this be done?

The advisors can do 2 different types of routes, the most direct, or safest. If you tell the advisor you would like to stay away from freeways they should be able to use the scenic route as long as both roads can get you to your destination. Soon they will be able to route you on any road or way you would like but that won't be until June, July timeframe. Hope this helps.

Thanks Boltbacker!

In your honest opinion is it better to buy the OnStar minutes for the in car phone or just use/register the OnStar as another Verizon phone. Luckily I am already on Verizon so I think it would just cost me another 9.99/month and I would use my regular Verizon minutes.

Or am I better off installing some kind of after market blue tooth?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hey Boltbacker - What can you tell us about the recent news story on the deal between OnStar and Mapquest? Sounds like a great idea! Is there any way we can apply to be part of the beta program? When does it start?

Unfortunately we do not allow beta testing released to the general public, the way it will work you will go onto your computer if your taking a long trip with multiple stops ie going to see disneyland, but stops along the way to hotels or to visit other things, you can put in each stop. When you get out to your vehicle the routes will already be downloaded when you get into the vehicle. It will be launched sometime during the 4th qtr of the year.

Thanks for offering your expertise.

Will changing the stock radio have any affect on the OnStar system?
Well that depends on what radio that you change it with, there is a wire harness that needs to be plugged into after market radios in order for it to be compatible with the OnStar system. You will have to check the specific radio you are looking to replace the Factory one with.

Here's a complaint/request:

I found out that if you pair your vehicle with your Verizon phone plan and share the minutes, you lose all the virtual advisor features of Onstar. I think it's deplorable that I was never informed of that when I purchased the additional minutes when first buying the Outlook. I used about 30 minutes of the prepaid package, then added the vehicle to my Verizon account, and now I can't call for traffic, weather, etc. I was told by the Verizon rep at Onstar in KY that this is how it works and nothing can be done about it, no refund on my prepaid minutes, nada. OH, and can't carry over the Onstar number to my Verizon number, have to get a new one assigned by Verizon. SO, if you plan to do this, don't disseminate that Onstar number much, cuz it'll be changing anyway.
