More recent than other posts -
I have a 2008 Outlook XR w/153,500 miles and have never had a problem until now - On a recent trip my car overheated, had steam/vapor coming out fron the engine compartment and got all the associated messages until I could get out of the highway and to a service station - Let it cool and added coolant - Technician indicated, without putting it up on a lift, it could be the water pump leaking - Was able to continue to destination approx 250 miles by adding coolant once more - what is the approximate replacement cost? Could it be hoses/clamps? What else could it be?? Any suggestions??

look here for info on how to spot a leaking pump.

But at 150,000+ miles...

if youre pump has indeed failed-- things to do...

replace pump,
replace upper and lower hose
replace coolant- (which youve already been doing)
replace thermostat

by the way-- could be a failing thermostat....
change your engine oil. (you may have noticed your oil life dropped quickly with the overheat)

Thanks a lot for your response/advice! With all those miles, I'm thankfully surprised that outside of one set of tires and one brake jot so far - this is the only maintenance/equipment issue I've had - I'm way ahead of the game
