Outlook vs Acadia

Other than looks, is there any reason why you chose a Outlook over an Acadia?

Saturn brand loyalty.
I'm not saying I have that, just offering it as a reason.
Some minor differences in standard features and options.

One standard feature I would like to have is express-up for the front passenger window.
One optional feature I would like to have is HUD.

These weren't enough for me to change my decision. I liked the Outlook interior looks better then the Acadia. My wife didn't like the big GMC letters on the grill.

If I had purchased a 2009, the cooled seats might make me think twice about the Outlook.
Wrap around rear windows, rims, interior, brand loyalty.
The outlook was a bit cheaper.... don't recall off the top of my head how much. But usually was in the 1500-2500 price range.

Plus liked the overall appearance a little better.
I've compared Outlook, Enclave, Traverse & Acadia based on my needs to move things. Enclave & Traverse were immediately crossed off of my list because I needed a rear opening that is 48" wide (for moving drywall sheets). Both Buick & Chevy had rear opening that became narrower towards the bottom (I think for styling purposes) while Outlook & Acadia remain at 48" wide.

Then, I compared features for dollar. The sunroof (on my must have list) is an available option on the base Outlook XE model. But sunroof is not available on the base Acadia SLE model. I have to fork out $6000+ for SLT model before I can get the sunroof. But because I don't want leather seats nor 7 passenger seating, I'd be paying for something I don't need on the SLT.

Outlook gives me exactly what I want for the lower price (the marketing people @ Saturn has been doing their homework to match up customer needs). On top of that, while GMC gives $6500 rebate for cash purchases of Acadia (minus the 3 year maintenance program) and Saturn only gives $5000 for cash rebate, the Saturn Loyalty Program gives me additional $2000 off for a total of $7000 discount off of the list price. And that's just the starting point for price haggling.

It was an easy decision to go Outlook.

When I got mine at the end of 2007, GM/Saturn were running 0% financing on 2007s. There were no Acadias left in my area. There were only three Outlooks left when I stopped in to take a look at them. When I brought my husband back the next day for a test drive, there were two left. By the time we got back from the test drive, there was one left. It had all the options I REALLY wanted, except for towing. But I don't actually tow anything, I just need a hitch for my bike rack, so I had that added later. And it didn't have a sunroof, which I had in my last two cars, but after hearing about the leaks, I'm glad I didn't get one!
Well...Saturn won't be around after 2012, so if that's a deal breaker, go with the GMC. (however, even GMC has been talked about cutting from GM's roster, so really unsure). I would say Chevy Traverse 1st, then Buick Enclave, as far as what will still be around....I think both Chevy and Buick will be safe from the cuts, but even Buick has been a possible cut too, but I don't see that happening. Some of you speak of brand loyalty to Saturn. What's that about? They are just the same as any other GM division, if you want to be loyal to GM that's understandable, but loyal to Saturn? I don't get that one.

Before Saturn cars were mainstreamed with the other GM lines is where that is coming from. They were different before 2007, service and sales. But now with my experience in the last month I am no longer a loyal follower. If they even make it to 2012 (I had heard 2011) they are going to loose support. Every dealer that closes makes them even worst. I think the Acadia will be around for a while as it looks different from the Traverse and the Enclave. The Outlook and Acadia share the same looks as the Traverse and the Enclave do. With the Outlook going away that will leave the Acadia to offset the T and E.
It's funny, because the Traverse has been compared to being most like the Enclave, and the Acadia and the Outlook more alike. However, look at all 4 next to each other, on the side, and notice that the Chevy, Saturn, and the GMC all have the same doors. Chevy tricked the eye by changing the rear window, but it's still just the same doors. Rear looks more like the Buick, because of the rear window.....again, tricking the eye. No bias here, but the Enclave is the only stand-alone in the 4.

Saturn used to be a different kind of car company. Different vehicles and different customer experience. That's why I bought a Saturn years ago. As a pimple-faced kid just coming out of school buying his first new car with his first paycheque, Saturn salesman gave me respect and were upfront/honest with information (eg. other brand's dealers were deliberately overcharging for freight, admin fees etc.). There's also none of the tricks other car dealerships played to lock up a kid's business or goad him into spending more than he can afford with complex payment calculators. Buying a Saturn was as easy and as painless as going to the corner convenience store. It's a dealership where customers feel they can trust the car salesman to provide honest and correct information and where they feel they really are being 'helped' by the salesman. That's a huge change from other dealerships where the salesman appears very friendly but seriously lack honesty.

A nearby Chrysler dealer used to run ads in the local paper featuring photo of the "Salesman of the month". They eventually stopped that practice when the same salesman appeared in the ad for several years. I've talked to that salesman when I was in the market for a minivan (yes, the Dodge Caravan was much better than the Relay). He works very similar to a Saturn salesman - no pressure, no tricks. Just straight answers.

Saturn is no longer so different today. But if you look around, you can still find a good salesman selling Saturns the old way.

In the end, as you say, the brands under GM aren't so different today. A Lambda is a Lambda whether in Enclave clothing or Outlook clothing. I just find Outlook to have the best combination of features/price for me. We all know these vehicles depreciate terribly fast. So the more we pay for the vehicle the more we lose through depreciation down the road. The Saturn meet my needs and cost the least of the bunch. I'm not saying Enclave isn't a good car. It's just dressed to be targeted towards a different market segment.

Hello,
I purchased an '07 Acadia. I put 49,000 on it with no complaints. A few warranty issues that were resolved quickly. I loved this car. We then purchased another car for daily driving and were not going to put as many miles on the Acadia, so I thought, what kind of deals could I get on a new one. To make the story short, I once went through an extensive decision making process, between the various versions of the platform and wound up with an '09 XR Outlook. The saturn is a much better vehicle. This may be the difference between '07 and '09, but I think it is more. Even the driver who delivered it, I did not purchase local, told me I would enjoy the ride and handling of the Saturn much more, and he was right. EVERYTHING IS AN IMPROVEMENT. It rides nicer, Radio is a hundred times better, both base model radios, and it is more comfortable to ride in than my ACADIA. One of the big descision makers is the interior color. If you want black (ebony) it has to be the Acadia. This was a major need as I had small kids. This time we chose the Beige interior that led me to the Outlook. Overall I get more for my money. The Acadia similarly equipt is about 1500-2500 more. Also Saturn offers a 3-36 warranty against stains to the interior, so even with the lighter interior, I am covered. As I drove the Acadia for two years, and loved it, and have had the Outlook for about a week, I can't say anything about mecanical issues or anything else in that area. But just comparing the ride, fit, finish, sound and comfort things etc. . I prefer the Outlook

The difference is in the 07 to 09. I drove an Outlook from June of 07 to April of 09 and just got an 09 Acadia in April. They improved alot over 2 years from engine to transmission to extras. The Bose system in the Acadia is 10 times better than the stock in the Outlook (don't know if the Bose is offered in the Outlook). With the exception of the interior trim, I cant tell the difference between the two on the inside. I choose not to go with the Saturn simply because of the lack of dealers and their future. Good Luck.
Acadia does not offer Tan Leather interior, but Outlook does.

I am a signiture White exterior / tan leather interior guy no matter the brand/vehicle - Outlook provided this to me. I am still stumped on why Acadia doesn't offer this very popular interior color.
To increase the sales of the Outlook.
The wife and I looked at both extensively.

We liked the looks of the Outlook better inside and outside. The topper was it was cheaper getting the XR with Sunroof and the wheel package on a used Lambda then it was for an Acadia.
Hi Everyone!
I was reading everyones posts and decided to give
my opinion, We just took delivery of a new 2009 Saturn Outlook
XE AWD today and I am very impressed in the ride, handling and very low
level of road noise.

This rides as quiet as a Cadillac CTS.and we took
advantage of the cash for clunkers deal ,and turned in a 95 S-10
Blazer and also traded in our 2000 Dodge Durango. GMC could
not even come close to making the deal we got with Saturn
for the same options, so it was a no brainer in choosing
the Outlook over the Acadia.

It is a Red Jewel XE loaded with everything except the Navigation system, sunroof and Leather interior'
we have a dog and Leather is just not practical with my Brittany Spaniel. Hope you all enjoy yours!

Regards BIg Red O ;D
