:D

Just returned from the dealer. The engine on our Outlook is still sitting on the floor. Camshaft actuator and head still need to be installed.

The service tech asked me if I wanted to see my car with the engine out....SURE!

Little did he know I had my camera so enjoy the photos.

Makes me sick just looking at it :puke:. I see a few parts on the floor, that would make me  The tech kind of looks a little lost, like "we got it out and in pieces now what", "I dont know, maybe if we look at it some more it will fix itself" :D ;D

Might want to get that muffler looked at as well...........that's a rust bucket, but I understand salted roads etc :-\

Yeah what are those other parts laying there.........trans, alternator ???

EDIT: The guy in the white shirt doesn't have dirty hands........... ???

That rusty muffler has me worried. I haven't put an exhaust on a car in probably 15 years. My '88 Caravan (184K), '93 Escort (184K) and '99 Odyssey (203K) all had their original exhaust on them when I sold them. From the looks of yours, the outlook may not fare as well. :'(

Oh, and that's not the trans on the floor, it may be the intake. The trans is still connected to the engine.

I think that might be the catalitic converter?

The catalitic converter should be infront of the muffler. What I see sure looks like the muffler. Showed a closeup to my husband and he as well thinks it is the muffler. Thoughts?

The converter is usually up close to the engine on newer cars. They need to be hot to work effectively, so they put them as close to the manifold as possible. I think it's that fatter rusty bit :banghead: you can see on the back of the engine. That would also mean that there are two smaller ones on V6 engines, one for the front 3 cylinders (unseen in these shots) and one for the back 3.

Yep, that is one of the catalitic converters, the muffler is right under the 2nd row pass seat.

:eek:hno: It looks like the road salting has taken it's toll already on all the exposed metal and I can tell you from experience that the dealership will not help you out on that. Road salt damage isn't covered by warranty. That is one very messy shop  I wonder if they have a room for all the parts that forget to be put in. I hope that yours turns out fine after this.

Anyone else think it's odd that they would pull the engine and transmission to change the head?

I'm just saying it seems like a lot of extra work. The head is on top of the engine, one would assume that it would be accessible from under the hood. Sure, having the engine out and on a cart makes things easy, but it's a bit overkill.

Now, the Outlook is tall in front and if it's the rear head, it's going to be hard to reach, so maybe it is easier to pull the engine.

I would assume that they wouldn't do a lot of extra work if they didn't have to, I mean GM is only going to pay them what the job calls for. If they take more time, that's on them.

The only thing I care about is "will it last" or will I have to have this crap redone AGAIN!

I know that they did not drop the engine totally when they replaced the timing chain the last week of June 2010.

If it takes dropping the whole engine and other parts in order to FIX it this time well go for it.

As long as there are no extra parts laying around AFTER they put it back together doesn't bother me one bit.

I believe that the GM tech they spoke with told them to "drop and repair".

As I said there were no extra parts in the back, which I did mention to Steve the day I took the photos in that if there were extra parts left to let me have them.

THANKS for all your comments I do appreciate all!

From previous readings; it seems the engine sits in a "cradle" of sorts; so I think it's actually easier for the tech's to drop the engine, work on it and then reinstall it

So a cradle...."rock a bye baby"...type cradle? ;)

Seriously I do believe Steve mentioned something like that the first time I was there.
