How do I find out exactly which items are and are not covered by the power train warranty. I have a 2009 Outlook that needs a sterrin g gear and some suspinsion bushings at 70,000 miles , and the dealer says none of it is covered by the warranty.

Steering and suspension isn't powertrain. Powertrain is generally anything involved in getting power to the wheels - major engine components, transmission, drive axles and differential.

There was a change between 2009 and 2010 GM powertrain warranties. I haven't been able to find a listing for the 2009's on line yet. Perhaps you can sign up on the Enclave or Acadia boards and ask over there. There are several GM service reps who monitor those boards and they may be able to help you.

You can find one of their posts and send them a question. They will need your name and serial number of your vehicle.

If I can find the listing for 2009 I will post it.

Here is one link for the 2007/2008 coverage for Chevrolet, which is the same coverage for Saturn. This will give you a good idea of what is covered. In 2010 some of those items covered were removed for certain vehicles.

timhollie,

The powertrain warranty for your vehicle is as follows:

Powertrain Coverage
The powertrain is covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Concern must be failure due to defective part.
Engine Coverage includes: All internally lubricated parts, the entire pressurized fuel system (in-tank fuel pump, pressure lines, fuel rail(s), regulator, injectors and return line). Also included are all actuators and electrical components internal to the engine (i.e.: Active Fuel Management Valve Lifter Oil Manifold, etc.) as well as the Engine/Powertrain Control Module, module programming, cylinder head, block, timing gears, timing chain, timing cover, oil pump/oil pump housing, OHC carriers, valve covers, oil pan, seals, gaskets, manifolds, flywheel, water pump, harmonic balancer, engine mount, starter motor, turbocharger and supercharger. Timing belts are covered until the first scheduled maintenance interval.
Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are sensors, wiring, connectors, engine radiator, coolant hoses, fans, coolant and heater core. Coverage on the engine cooling system begins at the inlet to the water pump and ends with the thermostat housing and/or outlet that attaches to the return hose. Also excluded are engine oil cooling hoses lines and radiators.
Transmission/Transaxle Coverage includes: All internally lubricated parts, case, torque converter, mounts, seals and gaskets as well as any electrical components internal to the transmission/transaxle.
Also covered are any actuators directly connected to the transmission (slave cylinder, etc.) as well as any Transmission Control Module and/or module programming.
Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are transmission cooling lines, hoses, radiator, sensors,
wiring and electrical connectors.
Transfer Case Coverage includes: All internally lubricated parts, case, mounts, seals and gaskets as well as any electrical components internal to the transfer case. Also covered are any actuators directly connected to the transfer case as well as encoder motor, transfer case control modules and/or module programming.
Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are transfer case cooling lines, hoses, radiator, sensors, wiring and electrical connectors.
