Well it's 100* out today and it leaked enough for the dealer to determine it's the water pump, a new one is on order :thumb:. He said they'll do the job the 1st week of August (booked up) and just keep an eye on the coolant level. OK to drive if I do that.
Two weeks to get a pump? Seems odd; but anyway; I would really be careful that the pump doesn't go into complete failure and your engine gets into a reduced power mode because of the lack of coolant :-\

It's probably because of the fact that it's not leaking all the time and when it does it's really not enough to make a dent in the tank, I watch it every day, so really not an emergency.....yet. I think they could of got the pump right away if it were puking antifreeze all over the place. Maybe they have a few bigger jobs to get out of the way first. We'll see and I'll keep my eye on it.

Well I had to call the dealer today to see if I could get my OUTLOOK in ASAP because the pump finally went, coolant everywhere on the drive, splashed under the car :help:. So it's parked untill Monday when I take it in. I hope the new pump is an improved model :-\

It's probably better it failed now instead of later; although I thought it would have lasted longer

I'm only at 32K. Looks like a real treat to work on too. I wonder if I'll get a whole cooling system flush while their at it?

I would think they would remove the right wheel and go through the wheel well; I would expect them to do an entire system flush and fill

Dear 6Sixathome,

I have read through the thread about your water pump on your Outlook. I am glad that the dealership was able to fit you in before August about this.

If there is a bright spot about this, it is that it happened at home, right? :-\

I hope all goes well with the repair and that they provide you with a loaner vehicle as to not to inconvenience you too much.

Let me know how things go and if you need further assistance with this.

Sincerely,
Michelle, GM Customer Service

Ask (insist) on a flush and fill

Dropped the OUTLOOK off today and was given an '07 Lacrosse CX with 46K on the clock for a loner :thumb: Hopefully tomorrow I'll have it back in the garage. It was leaking BAD when I dropped it off and the coolant dripping on the belt made a heck of a racket.

Dear 6Sixathome,

Thank you for the update of your situation with your dealership and vehicle. I am glad to read that they provided you with a loaner vehicle.

Have you heard anything from the dealership yet?

Yes, it will be tomorrow before I get the OUTLOOK back. I think this is the 1st water pump they have done for a Lambda based platform and I think they have only done one timing chain, maybe more now that was a few months ago when she told me that. All I hope for is it to come back to me better that when I dropped it off and I think it will :)

No price on the paperwork, all it said was "coolant pump leaking out the weep hole" "replaced coolant pump". I looked up in there and sure enough there's a new pump.

rbarrios I sent you a PM.

6Sixathome, did U get a new timing chain as well? My pump just went out at 47K, replaced under warranty, no issues so far.

No timing chain, they did not drop the engine down, I talked to one of the techs who worked on it. He did say the water pump was not an easy job.

Looks like I have the same problem on my 2008 XR FWD. I've found a puddle on the driveway the last couple days. Probably a 12-16" diameter wet spot after it sits for 4-8 hours. Thought it was oil since that was low, so I took it to Goodyear for an overdue oil change and tire rotation. They told me the oil is fine, but the water pump is leaking. They also found a transmission leak at the right side axle seal.

I assume both of these issues would be covered under the 100K mile powertrain warranty. I'm close to 48,000 now.

Is this a multi-day job for the dealer? I'm not really thrilled with the service I got at the Chevy dealer that will shuttle me to work. I'd rather take it somewhere near home and get a loaner, but they usually fight on that if they are not keeping it overnight.
