Any one else have this Service Air Bag Warning Message & Check Light coming on in the dash? Took it into the dealer I bought it from and stated that the error code just needed to be cleared out. Within 5 miles of leaving from the dealership the same warning lights came back on. The mileage is 3900 miles and never have been in an accident. Now the dealer has ordered a Air Bag Module and I am waiting for this part to come into the dealership to replace.

I have the same problem
I am on a trip at this time. The service air bag soon and the red light came on. Then it goes away. Did this 4 times yesterday. Called onstar they could find no problem. Any one else had this happen or know why it would happen. Thanks in advance for any advice.

maddmax,

I realize that you may be out of warranty with your 2007 Saturn Outlook. I understand that having this light is frustrating. The following information is from your owner's manual.

The system checks the airbag electrical system for malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an electrical problem. See Airbag Readiness Light on page 212 for more information.

On page 90 you will find; If the airbag readiness light in the instrument panel cluster ever comes on and stays on, it means that something may be wrong with the airbag system. If this ever happens, have the vehicle serviced promptly, because an adult-size person sitting in the right front passenger’s seat may not have the protection of the airbag(s). See Airbag Readiness Light on page 212 for more on this, including important safety information.

Airbags affect how your vehicle should be serviced. There are parts of the airbag system in several places around your vehicle. You do not want the system to inflate while someone is working on your vehicle. Your dealer/retailer and the service manual have information about servicing your vehicle and the airbag system. To purchase a service manual, see Service Publications Ordering Information on page 518. This information can be found on page 91.

The system checks the airbag’s electrical system for malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an electrical problem. The system check includes the airbag sensor, the pretensioners, the airbag modules, the wiring and the crash sensing and diagnostic module. For more information on the airbag system, see Airbag System on page 76. This light will come on when you start your vehicle, and it will flash for a few seconds. Then the light should go out. This means the system is ready. The above information can be found on page 212.

The following information can be found on page 213. If the airbag readiness light stays on after you start the vehicle or comes on when you are driving, your airbag system may not work properly. Have your vehicle serviced right away.

I recommend that you visit your local Saturn servicing dealership for further diagnostics of this light staying on.

If you have further questions please, direct message me.

Thanks for the information! I just bought the XE on Saturday for the wifey; she loves it so far. It has 63k miles and I believe the drive train warranty is good for 5yr/100,000 miles. It didn't have the owners manual so I am at a loss until I can find a replacement. Anyway, I noticed the service airbag message on the DIC pop up after she started the truck, then it went out; no red lights so that is a good thing. I just don't fully understand why it would go through a self diagnostic and display that message if there wasn't something wrong. I'll have to locate a dealership here in Richmond, VA to take it in for a check.

you can look at the Acadia, enclave, traverse forum as they are all similar.
you may also look at their manuals.

But try mygmlink.com you can usually get a PDF version from the site once you sign up.

You should have gotten a letter about both recalls, for the check engine light (timing chain problems) and the air bag sensor light. I have had this problem with my '09 Outlook for over a year now!!!!!! :angryfire: I went round and round with the Saturn dealership, they kept just clearing out my check engine light and within a mile or so of driving away, again it would come on.

Finally they are recognizing this problem. Just had my timing chain and air bag sensors replaced this week.

Yesterday my wife had the "service airbag warning" come on and the red airbag readiness light came on and stayed on while she drove, she shut it off and went in the store, when she came out and started it the light and warning went away and has been gone all day today as well ???. So it'll go in on Tues and I'll report back.

I'm sure the code is stored; so at least the dealer has something to work with

6Sixathome,

I see that you are having to take your wife’s Outlook in for the Service Air Bag light going on intermittently. Would you mind providing me with the VIN of the Outlook so I can check for recall notices for you? I remember reading on other General Motor’s forums about certain vehicles that are having this happen and there could possibly be information that I am unable to find for you without your VIN. You can private message me this information if you so choose.

Sincerely,

It was a clip that had to be installed on some wiring under the passenger seat that sensed a person sitting in it, the dealer service was awesome :thumb: in & out in 35 min :)

Hi...

Just wanted to see if any of you have been able to resolve this issue. I saw a post about a letter that was sent out to some owners, does anyone have a copy that I could view? My Hubby purchased a used 2008 with 47K milage for me almost a month ago. I LOVE the vehicle, but within 2 days, we were having the airbag warning light and message coming up. We took it back to the dealer where purchased and they said it just needed to be cleared, which they did. However, within a week we had the same message and lights intermittently coming and going. This is very worrisome to me as I am currently 8 months pregnant and have 2 small children that I drive around. Worried that it will go off while driving!! We are taking the vehicle into a GM dealership next week to have it checked, but I wanted to see if anyone had any insight that I could share with them. Desperately hoping to get this taken care of immediately!

Motsch,

I have read your post about the service airbag letter for certain Saturn Outlook vehicles. If you would like to send me a private message providing me with your VIN, I would be happy to look at the recall information for your vehicle.

Sincerely,
