Update on speaker problem: It appears that in my case it was the Front speakers that were the culprit!!! I took a hint from one of the post on the forum and decided to go it, and I'm done with the driver side and will tackle the passenger tomorrow. It turns out that the way the speakers are mounted they're mounted outside the door so to speak, it was in a plastic type enclosure that doesn't allow the speaker to be mounted in this enclosure without some retrofitting. I mounted the first one flush to the door but i noticed a thump when i opened the window, so there may be something hitting either the window regulator or the speaker magnet will investigate and report back, but for now i've got front sound in my outty :blob:

So my original issue a few weeks ago was that half of the speakers in the Outlook weren't working. I thought for sure it was the radio and instead of testing them out I went ahead and upgraded to the OEM Nav Unit. We wanted to do the upgrade anyways so no big deal.

However, the speakers were apparantely the issue. Out of the 6 speakers only 3 of them are working. So I pulled the doors off and took a known good and tested it on the known bad. I then took the speakers that weren't working and tried the "AA" battery test and get nothing.

Has anybody seen 3 speakers just go out completely? They are the cheap paper speakers made in Mexico so I'm not totally surprised but didn't know if anybody else experienced that. I wonder if the previous owner blew them up or what.

Anyhow, I ordered new Alpines for the doors and A pillars and Infinity's for the rear doors. Supposed to be here tomorrow so I guess it doesn't matter.
Where did you buy the Nav unit? I'm thinking about upgrading and adding a back-up assist camera for the wife. Just curious.

You all are gonna love this. Sometimes all the speakers work fine then only the driver side will work, then out of nowhere only the tweeter's in the A pillar next to the windshield will work. When the outside temp is above 80 degrees most of the time every thing works fine. I am so frustrated. It is a 2009 XE with the single disc, mp3
stock radio. Anybody else have similar problems and if so did you have it fixed? What was the solution?

2008 XR left front speaker on again off-again, RR speaker ok, and both front tweeters ok, real tinny sound.
These probably failed between 90,000 and 100,000 miles(now).

You can test by using fade & left/right controls when you press middle of tuning knob.

Since I had replaced all 4 Saturn 2007 Aura speakers, I took a wild guess that the QA dept at GM hadn't caught up with the likely fatigue issue on the voice coil electrical connections, all speakers measured open circuit. No apparent damage, looked fine (pretty weak magnet, but probably normal), just no continuity through voice coil.

Front speakers are 4 ohm and rears are 8 ohm. Very glad still not wiring harness problems, speakers are pretty cheap as they go, but stock units gave, and new stock ones from GM still working fine & sounding good on Aura 155,000 miles.

Same thing with my '08. For a while the notification chime sound would intermittently not work, then recently not at all. Didn't make the connection with the speaker until recently. May tackle this week if I can...its an ongoing challenge to keep up with repairs on my Outty.

I am having the exact same issue- with the factory radio, the speakers would randomly go in and out; sometimes different speakers on different days. All that was left was the tinny tweeters. Since the LCD display on the factory radio (CD non-nav unit) had gone out, I assumed it was in the radio itself. I replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket radio using Metra wiring harness in order to keep the warning chimes. All speakers worked for a few days; but the random pattern has now returned. Thus- it is somewhere between the radio and the speakers.
Others have remarked about temperature affecting; I will start to track that.

yes I had all but one speaker Out when I bought my outlook I took out the factory speakers and clipped the factory connector off and installed 4 new jbl concert series 6in in that is the same size as the factory I cut the actual speaker out of the riser and mounted the new jbl on it and it now sounds amazing. If I can find the pics ill post them. apparently it is a common problem the speaker corrodes due to water coming in though the door connector. open your door and poop off the electrical connector and see how much water comes out.

I suggest a tiny nick in the bottom of the wiring conduit between door and body to keep water from accumulating there. Be very careful not to nick any of the wires in the conduit. Unless the wires or connector are already too degraded, it's a 10 second fix! :)
