Thought I'd post the VIN of my new 2010 XR to see if someone can give me the option breakdown and service history. Hoping there was nothing major in the first 12K miles. ;D

My VIN is xxxx.

Thanks!

Not sure if anyone here can run it; but a mod on the Acadia forum can if you don't get any responses

Your RPO's should be listed on the glovebox sticker; from there you could input them on this site http://www.gm-trucks.com/rpo-code-lookup/ but you would have to do them one by one instead of having a comprehensive listing.

Rbarrios,

XL7 rpo code doesn't appear in the 2010 Saturn Outlook print book (I just checked it).

May have something to do with the RKE maybe? Likely just a regulation or requirement for certain jurisdiction.

on another forum- someone said its the frequency of the remotes...
he is right--- I looked it up- and 315 is the frequency used by GM remotes.

Cool, thanks.

So no service in 12k miles, not even an oil change? Or could it be that the rental company has it's own service dept and everything is handled there and so it wouldn't show up in the GM system? It does say "Service Contract: No" near the top. Still, I'd bet warranty work would go through the dealer, maintenance might not.

Looking through the list, I'm curious about some of the packages:

1SZ - DISCOUNT OPTION PACKAGE
1XR - PACKAGE CXR OPTION 2
Y91 - MERCHANDISE PKG LUXURY EDITION

What are in those packages? Are the items elsewhere in the list?

Also, these are curious:

JJD - I/P SUBASSEMBLY NOT INSTALLED
JJS - CONSOLE FRT FLR NOT INSTALLED

What I/P (instrument panel, right?) subassembly and floor console were not installed?

Would be interesting to know what rental company had it, but doubt that's easy to determine.

I would think the rental companies have their own oil changers..
There was an Enterprice near me- big lot- and they appeared to have their own bays for oil changes on their vehicles...

Though I have seen some peoples VINs who have been run- and they did have a particular rental company listed on their codes,

My guess is that rental co's are using the OLM, so 12K on the OLM might read 15, 20%, so why change the oil when we can sell it? JMO

OLM = Oil Life Monitor?

If so, it read 55% remaining after delivery which would mean a 26K change interval if it had never been changed. Does it let you go that long?

Yes on the OLM

Be careful with the OLM; some will say that it's not as accurate as it states. I think the owner's manual states not going over a calendar year without changing the oil. If I had purchased this vehicle; one of the first things I would have done would be to do an oil change

I've got to check what it says now after a 1,000 mile road trip pulling a trailer. My wife drives it mostly, so I don't get to check it often.

It's not actually measuring the oil quality as I believe some systems do, it uses some kind of algorithm base on driving style, RPM, time and what not (phases of the moon? ;D) to determine oil life, right? I'd be skeptical of regular intervals over 8K, we'll see how it goes.

I've got another camping trip coming in 3 weeks, I'll probably get it changed before then regardless of what the OLM says.

The OLM doesn't measure oil quality(you can check that with a universal oil analysis UOA). The vehicle takes into account all sorts of inputs to determine the life of the oil; as you stated above. I think the owner's manual talks about the OLM inputs.

The sooner that you can change the oil the better. Like AA said an oil change is one of the first things that should be done. It realllllllllllllllllly should be done if you know that it came from a rental co.

Since you cant be sure- Id go ahead and change it now.
Stay away from Mobil 1 oil- people who have used it- are not happy with their used oil analysis (this oil and the 3.6 DI engine).

Agreed, unless you have complete service history *AND* particularly paying respect to the fact this is was a former rental vehicle (you do know how some people treat rentals....) it may just be cheap insurance to drain the oil and change it out with fresh name brand oil that meets spec for your Outlook.

The jury is out on the OLM right now due to how the 3.6DI (or *ANY* DI for that matter) beats up on the oil. Although I fully trust my OLM in my '05 Pontiac Pursuit when running dino oil, I have not (yet) built up enough trust of the OLM in the 3.6DI to give me an accurate depiction of how well the oil truly is doing. The UOA (Used Oil Analysis) posted by various Lambda owners would point towards the OLM not jiving up well with the UOA numbers.

A point of clarification, I think GM has done tremendous work on the OLM system. It's just that I wouldn't run any synthetic oil down to where the OLM says to change it on the 3.6DI. Let alone a dino oil!

Checked it tonight - OLM says 36% life left. Definitely gonna get changed before I go. Besides, you are all right, who knows when the rental company changed it and how it was treated. I try not to think of that too much.

i'm a bit surprised that it wasn't changed as a par of the GM certification process. I guess I would have thought that was done regardless of what the OLM said.

it could be that it was changed.. but the OLM was not reset.

Most of the used oil analysis that some of us have done- the OLM was around the 45-50% mark.
Many show that the oil had been beat up....so to speak.

If youre really at 36% I would really change it...just for peace of mind.
