My wife just pointed out that there is a crack in the dashboard of our 08 outlook. Its in the drivers side upper corner and its about 4 inches long. Were upset about this
and have know idea how it got there. We just turned 63,000 miles and are the original owners. This car is garage kept and meticulous maintained inside and out. Anyone else had this happen?

It almost looks like there is some unknown pressure which is being exerted on the edge of the dash where this crack developed.

The only time I have seen this type of material crack was in an older Dodge where both the hard plastic door panels, which ran right along the base of the windows split right down the middle. The temperature outside was several degrees below zero when they snapped.

I agree it looks like a pressure crack of some sort as there is not really separation that you would normally see in temperature cracks.

I agree that it looks like a pressure crack. Has it has ANY work done in that area to where some prying or something like that may have been involved?

We had a timing chain cover leak repaired about a month ago at a GM dealership. I believe they had to pull the engine...other then that I cant think of any recent repairs or work done on the entire car except oil changes. Also car has never been in an accident.

Interesting you have not had any steering rack/column work done? Just the timing chain?

Yep they have to drop the engine to replace the chains. Had the engine dropped not once but twice on the 07 Outlook.

Anyway...something to ponder and I may be way off track here so give me some leeway okay?

Scenario....the are undoing all the components which keeps the engine solidly in place and...for some unknown reason...something on the left side hangs up which puts undue strain onto the left front side of the vehicle. Which could cause a twisting/warping motion.

Could it happen?

I have no actual knowledge of such.

Just a wondering thought racing through my mind this morning.

Good luck.

Have you brought this to the attention of your local dealer? I would be happy to look into this for you with the last eight of your VIN. Thank you in advance.
